Children
Ms. Osborne has a thirty year history of teaching children. For several years, she taught ballet in Long Beach, NY, first for the Long Beach Theatre Guild, and then, for her own private school. For the past twenty five years, she has been the head of the Brooklyn Music School’s Dance Department. Taking a curriculum that offered only ballet to children from ages five to nineteen, she built a program that included creative movement for three to five year olds, along with expanding classes to offer modern dance, tap, jazz and pointe. As a community arts school, all students, regardless of natural ability are accepted into the dance program as equals. What they put into their training is viewed as their earned talent. During her time at BMS,, she built a program that would include pre-professional training for the young dancers, whether or not they intended to continue as professionals. She founded the “Journey Dancers” in 1999 to offer these dancers performing opportunities. During the past 10 years, these performing ensembles have been the core of her original “A Brooklyn Nutcracker,” as well as, in numerous stages and performing venues in the Tri-State area. The name “journey” came from the realization that it is in the journey that we realize the creative process.
Her commitment to teaching and passing on her knowledge to children and teen agers has been and continues to be a central theme in her life.
