Dancers Studio
DANCERS STUDIO FOUNDATION, INC. was founded by Valerie Bettis in 1965. Ms. Bettis, modern dancer, choreographer, and actress wanted to form a not-for-profit organization to support and develop performing artists. In Valerie’s words, she was interested in cultivating “dancers who could act, and actors who could dance.” Over the years, DSF, through workshops and live performances, offered opportunities for choreographers, playwrights and composers to create their art, while giving dancers, actors and musicians new and exciting venues for performance.
After Ms. Bettis’s death in 1982, Carole Ann Lewis, became DFS President, leading the organization into a new era. This past year, Robin Osborne, former student and company member of Ms. Bettis, has taken over the leadership. It is her desire to continue Dancers Studio Foundation’s mission, with a look back at its legacy, as well as, a fresh look at its pertinence in the 21st century.
